Tragic Boat Accident in the Narmada River

A heartbreaking incident took place in the Narmada River near Bargi Dam in Jabalpur district of Madhya Pradesh. A cruise boat carrying more than 30 passengers capsized on Thursday evening, turning a normal outing into a major tragedy.

According to reports, the accident happened due to sudden stormy weather. Strong winds and high waves disturbed the balance of the boat near Khamaria Tapu Island. Within a short time, the boat overturned and started sinking, leaving passengers struggling to save their lives in the water.

Local people who were present nearby said everything happened very quickly. Many passengers did not get enough time to react as the situation worsened within minutes.

Deaths, Missing, and Rescue Efforts

So far, 6 people have lost their lives in the accident. Among them, a mother and her young son were found together, which made the situation even more emotional for everyone present.

Around 15 passengers managed to swim to safety, while 8 to 10 people are still missing. Rescue teams reached the spot soon after the accident and immediately started search operations.

Police and State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) teams are working continuously to find the missing passengers. Divers, boats, and other equipment are being used to search the dam waters. However, poor visibility and weather conditions are making the rescue work difficult.

Local fishermen and residents are also helping the teams in the search efforts. Families of the missing passengers are waiting near the riverbank, hoping for any news about their loved ones.

Officials Respond, Safety Concerns Raised

After receiving information about the incident, Jabalpur District Collector Raghvendra Singh and Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyaya rushed to the spot. They are closely monitoring the rescue operations.

ASP Anjana Tiwari confirmed that six bodies have been recovered so far and that the search for missing passengers is still ongoing. Officials said that rescue work is being carried out on a war footing.

Initial reports suggest that the sudden storm was the main reason behind the accident. But at the same time, questions are being raised about safety measures. Some people believe that proper precautions may not have been taken before the boat started its journey.

Issues like overloading, lack of life jackets, and emergency preparedness are now being discussed. Authorities have said that a detailed inquiry will be conducted to find out if any rules were ignored.
